NON-SEEDING OPEN TOURNAMENT FORMAT

  • Coaches Meeting: 7:30 am START Time
  • Tournament START Time: 8 am
  • Check-in should be completed at the tournament desk prior to the Coach's meeting. A picture ID for each coach on the roster is required along with a medical release form for each player on the roster. Please provide your verified SportsEngine or event specific AES roster. Handwritten rosters or Team Registration form will not be accepted.
  • It is the goal of the Arizona Region to schedule a paid R1 on every court, every tournament.  However, it is increasingly harder to do that.  Every coach should come prepared to R1 during the team ref assignment - bring a whistle.  If there is a paid R1 on your court, that is a bonus.  If there is not, you are prepared.
  • Format - Teams are straight seeded into divisions of 8 or 7.  8-team divisions will be separated into 2 pools for pool play, followed by a cross-pool match.  7-team divisions will use the 7 Team Bracket (Open) format: 2 pools for pool play (3 teams in one pool using Auto-3 and 4 teams in the other pool), followed by a cross pool matches (or contender bracket of 3 teams for 5th, 6th, & 7th). Following this tournament 3 teams will move up, 2 teams will stay and 3 teams will move down a division for the next tournament play (unless the next tournament is the Region Championship). Match play is best 2 of 3 sets to 25, 3rd set to 15, if needed. Ties will be resolved by the new USAV procedure adopted for 2020 (paraphrased as follows):
    1. 2 way tie by match % - the head to head winner of those 2 teams earns the higher pool finish
    2. 3 way tie by match % - finish determined by set % (sets won / total sets played)
      • if 2 teams are tied by set % after one team's finish is determined by having the highest or lowest set %, then the head to head winner of those 2 teams earns the higher pool finish
    3. 3 way tie by match % and set % - finish determined by point % (points won / total points played)
      • if 2 teams are tied by point % after one team's finish is determined by having the highest or lowest point %, then the head to head winner of those 2 teams earns the higher pool finish
