Junior Boys Tournament Information

Boys Tournament Format

  • Coaches Meeting: 8:30 START Time
  • Tournament START Time:  9 am
  • Check-in should be completed at the tournament desk prior to 8:30 am. A picture ID for each coach on the roster is required along with a medical release form for each player on the roster. There is an 8 point penalty to the team's first match if the coach is not checked in BEFORE 8:30 am and does not attend the Coach's meeting.
  • Rosters are required to have correct jersey numbers. The rosters will be checked off by the site director at check in.
  • Format - Teams are straight seeded into pools of 8 or less.  Teams are divided into sub-pools. Play begins with pool play within the sub-pools.  Once pool play is completed, cross-pool matches will determine final places in the overall Pool.  Three teams will move up, three teams will move down and 2 teams will stay in the division.  The teams will stay as they finished after play in tournament #5 for seeding into the Region Championships - no movement up or down.
  • No teams will move between the Open and 14s divisions.
  • Match play is best 2 of 3 sets to 25, 3rd set to 15, if needed. Ties will be resolved by the new USAV procedure adopted for 2020 (paraphrased as follows):
    • 2 way tie by match % - the head to head winner of those 2 teams earns the higher pool finish
    • 3 way tie by match % - finish determined by set % (sets won / total sets played)
      • if 2 teams are tied by set % after one team's finish is determined by having the highest or lowest set %, then the head to head winner of those 2 teams earns the higher pool finish
    • 3 way tie by match % and set % - finish determined by point % (points won / total points played)
      • if 2 teams are tied by point % after one team's finish is determined by having the highest or lowest point %, then the head to head winner of those 2 teams earns the higher pool finish
  • Please note: for any 3 team division, the 3 team pool will play auto 3 sets to 25 (if one team wins the first 2 sets, the 3rd set will not be considered in set % and point % calculations in the event of a 3-way pool tie).  This is not optional.

COVID 19 Modifications to Tournaments

At this point in time, it is assumed that everyone knows the contagious nature of the COVID 19 virus and its variants.  As with any other infectious diseases ALL should take precautions to prevent themselves and those around them from getting sick.  Therefore:

  • STAY HOME if you are not feeling well or are sick.
  • Wash hands often.
  • Do not share water bottles, drinks or food.
  • When coughing or sneezing, do so into your elbow, a sleeve or a tissue.  This is the same when the coughing or sneezing is due to allergies.
  • Wear a mask, if you are uncomfortable in the presence of others.  No mask shaming for wearing or for not wearing a mask.
  • Those that are in the vulnerable category for infectious disease should consider the risk of crowded locations before attending.

BOYS TOURNAMENTS

TOURNAMENT FORMAT AND  COACHES' MEETINGS

GAME DAY ATTENDANCE: PLEASE!!! Let the Arizona Region Office know if you will not be at the tournament PRIOR to Thursday of the tournament week.  "No-Show" teams will be fined $100. Teams who do not show up for tournaments create a big scheduling problem at the site location.

Coaches meetings are held 1/2 hour prior to the first match start time.  All coaches are to be checked in prior to the Coaches meetings and attend the Coaches meeting to avoid an 8 point penalty against the team for their first match.  Checking in on time and attending the Coaches meeting is the way we get the tournament started off on time so we can finish at a reasonable time at the end of the day.

Some teams look at the format and realize they play 2nd and are not checking in a half hour prior to start. This makes the team late. Teams not checked in a half hour prior to tournament start time risk being formatted out of the event as a no-show.
  • Coaches - please have your teams on site and ready to play at the 9 am start time even if they are to referee  or are off the first round.  A "no-show" at start time will change the division format immediately.  Everyone needs to be ready to play.
  • Coaches you must be available during ref assignments to help with scorekeeping and officiating.

PURPLE CARD POLICY

  • Purple Card Policy is in effect.
    • COACHES: You are responsible for your parent's behavior.

TEAM CAMPS

  • COACHES: You are responsible for your team camp are cleanup.
  • Trash and failure to follow facility rules are THE major sources of reluctance of athletic directors to let us use gyms. We need to do a much better job keeping food and drink, (including coffee and coolers), out of the gyms and taking our trash home!
  • Gym facilities are one of the most difficult parts of putting together a successful season. To that end, we MUST treat them with the utmost respect. Treat all facility personnel as if they have the authority to ask you to move your stuff because they do.

Keep your coffee, food and coolers outside.

NO COOKING OF ANY KIND This includes crock pots, hotplates, Sterno heated chafing dishes, barbeques, and anything which produces heat, etc., on the premises

Pick up all the trash around your bench area and your "camp" area

NO ALCOHOL on site

Please leave your televisions at home.

PACK IT IN - PACK IT OUT!
Due to the amount of trash accumulated and left at tournament locations, the AZ Region has enacted a pack it in/pack it out policy.

Whatever is brought to a tournament should be packed up and taken home to recycle, reuse, or dispose of at their own residence.

Site directors are spending more and more time cleaning up, facilities are spending more money for additional trash pickup following our events. This policy will help to reduce waste and trash at AZ Region events. In this day and age of "green", let's all do our part!

Food and beverages in the gym policy enforcement.
Any participant and/or spectator found with food/beverages (except for water in closed containers) in the gym will incur a 13 point penalty for their team in their next match

A report will be filed with the AZ Region Office.

Further violations by the same team will result in a $200 fine for each occurrence. The fine must be paid before the team will be allowed to continue participating.

Trash bags

Please pack up your trash and take it home for disposal.

Water bottles on floor behind athletes' feet

Please recycle your plastic water bottles and remember your water bottles.

FRIENDLY REMINDER

City police departments enforce parking restrictions at many of the playing sites.

Please park legally each day - especially on Mondays - as many businesses in the surrounding areas are open for business.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP IN MAKING THIS A VERY SUCCESSFUL SEASON.
