The tryouts will be held on Sat, May 20(10am-1:30pm), and/or Sun, May 21(1-4:30pm) . The boys may come to one or both of the tryouts. It is only required to attend one of them. Register for one or two days in Webpoint.

The girl's team members will be invited to tryout from a series of 3 HP Camps. The participants can attend 1, 2 or 3 camps. There is no requirment to attend all 3 camps. The 3 camps gives the participant the opportunity to be seen should they not be available one day and again should they have a bad day. The Arizona Region will be selecting players for their Youth (born in 2000-2001) and Select (born in 2002-2003) age group teams. We will also be evaluating players for a Future Select (born in 2004 or 2005) Team to go to Ft Lauderdale as well.

The camps will be held on Fri, May 12(5:30-9pm), Sat, May 20(10am-1:30pm), and/or Sun, May 21(1-4:30pm) . The location for the tryout camps is Court One Athletics. Participants will register for 1, 2 or 3 days in Webpoint. Players that register for all 3 camps will be given a $100 credit toward their HP fees should they make the team.

AZ Region HP Beach 2017

Boys and Girls

Due to the change in structure at the USAV level for HP Beach the Arizona Region will not be participating in the HP Beach program this year.

USAV changed to a zonal qualification process for the Region teams. The teams would have had to compete in a zonal qualification during the last week of school in Arizona. Only 1 team could be guaranteed entry per age division and the team would have had to win the zonal qualification to attend the Zonal Championships which took place during Girls JNC. The teams would have had to travel to Texas to participate in either of these tournaments. Only the winning team from the Zonal Championships would have been invited to the HP Championships in Hermosa Beach. The emphasis of the USAV HP program has shifted from the Region teams to the international teams.

The Region is considering our options for beach participation for 2018 season as there are other options to play and represent the Arizona Region and get good interregional competition.

USA Volleyball is the National Governing Body for the sport of volleyball in the United States. The national organization runs and manages the USA National Men's and Women's Volleyball Teams, the USA Olympic Teams, and also USA Youth and Junior National Teams for each gender. The Youth and Junior National Teams, along with a number of tiered training programs, fall under the High Performance (HP) Department. The national HP Department works to advance volleyball talent and build a broader and stronger pipeline of athletes and coaches for our USA Olympic Teams.

The HP Program at USA Volleyball is the "pipeline" for young volleyball athletes who aspire to reach the elite level of their sport and who dream to one day represent the USA on the National Men's or Women's Volleyball Team. HP provides many team and camp opportunities for young volleyball athletes in three designated age groups for each gender. These age groups are determined by an athlete's year of birth (using international criteria) and begin approximately when they are 13 or 14 years old, continuing for six seasons, often into their collegiate years.

The mission of the USAV High Performance Program is to build a national pipeline of junior volleyball athletes and coaches, creating broad opportunities for advancing the level of play, competition and skill development throughout the sport.

What is happening in the Arizona Region with HIGH PERFORMANCE?

The Arizona Region is working with directly with USA Volleyball to provide the best possible opportunities for all members in our region.  We are doing this in the following ways.

  • The Region hosts USA Volleyball National High Performance tryouts in Arizona each year.  There are separate tryouts for the girls and boys.  The National tryouts in Arizona for boys is held in late January or early February; the National tryouts for girls are held in mid-late March.  These dates are arranged each year around the girls’ national qualifier schedule.
  • The Arizona Region forms HP teams to compete in the High Performance Championships in July each year.  The Arizona Region will sponsor two girls’ teams (Youth and Select) and two boys’ teams.  For 2017 the HP Championships will be held in Ft Lauderdale, FL

What is the advantage of attending the Arizona Region Tryout?

The Arizona Region tryout is exactly the same at the other tryouts held at national qualifiers all around the country.  Attending the Region hosted tryout is for the Arizona Region team selection only.  It also means that athletes can play HIGH PERFORMANCE even though they may not participate in national qualifiers with their club team. If an athlete does not tryout in Arizona, they will not be chosen for the AZHP teams.

General Questions About High Performance

1.  What is the time commitment?
The Arizona High Performance (AZHP) teams will train the week of July 10th-15th in the Phoenix metro area.  The teams will be training approximately 2 times per day during that time.  The training is to prepare the team to compete in the High Performance Championships in late July.  The commitment is basically from July 10th – July 23rd.

2.  What is the cost of participating on the AZHP team?
The cost of participation on the team is $950.00. This fee covers the cost for training, hotel stay and travel to and from the HP Championships city.  The fees will be broken into 2 payments if needed. 1st payment of $475 is due upon commitment to the team and balance will be due no later than July 1.  Group flights will be booked as soon as all rosters are confirmed for Arizona Region High Performance teams (girls and boys).

3.  How do you make the team?
The tryout is for those athletes that are available to commit to the time frame and fall in the respective gender and birthdate categories for the teams being offered.

4.  How many athletes are chosen for the teams?
The AZ Region will choose between 10-12 athletes per team that is formed.

5.  When are teams announced?
The Arizona Region HP Director will contact the selected athletes for a commitment within 10 days of the tryouts. When all the commitments have been received the teams will be announced.
