Understanding the Tiers of Junior Volleyball in Arizona
Let’s explore the different levels of junior volleyball, the opportunities available right here in the Arizona Region, and where your athlete—boy or girl—might find their best fit.
Recreational Volleyball
This is where many young athletes take their first steps—low-pressure, community-based leagues that introduce the game in a fun and supportive environment.
Community Competitive
A great next step for intermediate players, this level often includes school or intramural teams that offer a more structured yet friendly competition.
Club Volleyball
Here’s where we come in. The Arizona Region of USA Volleyball sanctions and supports club volleyball for boys and girls ages 8–18, offering opportunities across a wide range of skill levels—from developmental to advanced to elite.
High Performance
Our Arizona Region High Performance Program gives elite athletes a chance to train at the highest level and represent our region at the USAV All-Star Championship—a premier event featuring top athletes from across the country and around the world.

Developmental Club Level
Beginner–Intermediate
This is where many athletes get their start. Developmental teams focus on skill-building, teamwork, and gaining confidence in a low-pressure environment—often with local play and limited travel.
Regional Club Level
Intermediate
At this level, teams compete in tournaments hosted by the Arizona Region and other clubs across the state. Athletes continue to improve their skills while experiencing a higher level of regional competition.
Championship Club Level
Advanced
These teams are more competitive and often travel beyond Arizona for qualifiers and high-level tournaments. Many athletes at this stage are preparing for college recruitment.
Open Division
National Club Level & Elite
The Open Division is the most competitive level of club volleyball. Arizona teams competing here face the best in the country and often attract the attention of college scouts.
High Performance (HP)
