Finn Kearney and Teraya Sigler are the two AZ Region athletes who performed on the USA Volleyball National teams.
Teraya Sigler was quoted, “We are fighters,” Sigler said. “Our coach was always repeating to us that we needed to be ourselves, that there was nobody better, so we gained confidence. We were losing 0-2 and we were playing an amazing team in Türkiye, but we came back. My teammates deserve the world. We have great spirit, and I think volleyball is an emotional sport, a fire, and we are showing it on the court – celebrating, dancing, enjoying.”
GOLD! Girls U19 Team Wins World Title
The U.S. Girls U19 National Team won the gold on Friday with a 3-2 comeback win over Türkiye (20-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-16, 15-10) at the FIVB Girls U19 World Championship in Osijek Croatia.
It’s the third straight medal in the event for the United States (9-0 in the tournament), which won hardware in four of the last five editions of the U18 World Championship before the change to U19 last year, taking gold in 2019, silver in 2013 and 2015, and bronze in 2021. With the victory, the U.S also becomes the first girls U19 world champions.
Outside hitter Abby Vander Wal, who led the U.S. in the final match with 19 points (15 kills, two blocks, two aces) was named tournament MVP and Best Outside Hitter, and Teraya Sigler was named Next Best Outside Hitter.

Boys U19 Team Has Best Worlds Finish Ever at 4th
The U.S. Boys U19 National Team finished the FIVB World Championship with its best placement ever, taking fourth on Friday in San Juan, Argentina.
In Friday’s bronze medal match, the U.S. Boys (5-3) lost to Korea 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 25-23). The U.S. Boys came close to taking Korea to a fifth set, but a late fourth-set rally came up short.
The two teams were statistically very close. Korea led in kills (53-52) and scored 34 points on U.S. errors while committing 19. The U.S. Boys led in blocks (11-8) and aces (3-1).
