The US Government has extended the social distancing guidelines through April 30; Governor Ducey has closed the schools through the rest of the school year; Governor Ducey has implemented a Stay At Home order for the State of Arizona; USAV insurance suspension has been extended to April 30.  Therefore, the AZ Region will follow these guidelines and suspend any further play, practices, private lessons, etc until April 30.  The Region office will be closed through Apr 30 or until such time the Stay At Home order is lifted by Governor Ducey.

Please email office@azregionvolleyball.org if you have any issues that need to be addressed.  The phone messages will not be checked until we return to the office when we are able.

The health and welfare of our membership, volleyball families and fellow citizens is our primary concern in all decisions we are making during these uncharted times.

Please visit the USA Volleyball Response to COVID 19 for the full content of all of their press releases.  www.usavolleyball.org

Regarding refunds:  As the Board assesses the future of our adults, boys spring and girls tournament schedules, refunds will be issued to the clubs or adult team reps for any tournaments or events that have been cancelled once we know what the extent of the cancellations will be.

Arizona Region COVID-19 Response 3.17.20

The health and safety of our members and their families is always our first priority.  In this very unusual time, this calls for flexibility, patience, and above all, concern for our families and their health.

The USAV Insurance has been pulled through at least March 31st.  Anyone practicing or participating in any way (including those that have signed waivers to participate) are at risk of full medical expenses in case of injury and damage costs to any facility.  USAV, AAU, JVA and all other sports organizations have suspended participation in order to reduce the impact of this virus on the health of our families and our health care system. We strongly encourage everyone to follow the good hygiene guidelines, observe the self-distancing and refrain from group events to help put this virus to bed.  This will allow us all to get back to normal in a much quicker time frame.

At this time, we have no further information from the US Government, the local government, USAV, or the school systems to know how to proceed beyond March 31st.  Our Junior Girls Committee will be meeting this Friday to discuss options for proceeding after we are given the okay to resume play.

Any financial questions will be dealt with once we know the extent of the closures and cancellations.

Thank you for your patience during this very unusual time.  We will continue to send out communication as we receive it from USAV or any other governmental entity that affects our organization.  All our communication can also be found on our website under the Corona Virus Response page.  This also links to the USAV Corona Virus Response page on the USAV website with their updated responses.

Update from USAV On COVID-19

The following statement was posted on the USA Volleyball website at 5 pm MDT.

"We are continuing to monitor the status of the COVID-19 cononavirus.  In the interest of welfare and safety of our membership, USA Volleyball is eliminating the sanctioning for all USA Volleyball activities (including but not limited to events, practices, individual training sessions or anything covered by USA Volleyball insurance) effective 11:59 pm, Friday, March 13th.  This ban on all USA Volleyball sanctioned activities extends through March 31st.  We are monitoring the situation on a daily basis and wil provide periodic updates as information becomes more apparent. Please refer to https://www.teamusa.org/usa-volleyball/features/usa-volleyball-response-on-coronavirus for the latest updated information"

The information sent to us states that the decision was made at the advice of risk managers, EPIC, and that they ask us to please forward the announcement to our clubs.  By withdrawing the sanction, USA Volleyball insurance will no longer apply to volleyball activities that may take place in our region during this period.

They thank us all for our support and assistance with this important matter and remind us that all decisions being made are in the interest of safety and our social responsibility to be part of the solution in fighting this pandeminc.

To put it short, all USAV insurance is withdrawn through March 31st.

The Arizona Region Board of Directors will be meeting next week to discuss our further programming for the season.  Please know that we are all in this together and will work in the best interest our our members and clubs in any and all decisions.  This situation is still fluid and may take some time to understand all that we need to know to move forward.

March 12, 2020

The health of our athletes, coaches, officials and spectators are paramount to the AZ Region.  Therefore, in light of the recent governmental and USAV recommendations the Arizona Region will cancel all events effective Friday, Mar 13, 2020 at 12 am through all of Sunday, March 22, 2020.

It is highly recommended that all Region sanctioned events, including practices, camps, clinics and tournaments, be cancelled for that period as well.  This includes our 4s tournament and the Pre-USAV HP Tryouts scheduled this weekend.  The USAV HP Tryouts have been cancelled in Arizona.

We will re-evaluate in the coming days and weeks to determine the best course of action moving forward.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Arizona Region Board of Directors

  • Harold Cranswick  - Commissioner
  • Becky Hudson - Secretary
  • Earl Capps - Officials' Division Coordinator
  • Charlotte Pottle - Jr Division Coordinator
  • Ron Pelham - Adult Division Coordinator
