Arizona High Performance shocked and awed the High Performance Championships held July 22-27 in Tucson.
The Girl's Youth squad coached by Molly Stark and Patrick Mooney, competing in the International Girls' Division posted a 7-1 tournament record en route the the Region's first HP Gold Medal with a win over USA Select White in straight sets.

In the boy's International Youth division, the Arizona Boy's, coached by Tony Oldani and Kurstan Olaso, went into the tournament seeded 13th out of 14 teams but stunned the field by taking the Silver division Championship with a win over USA Youth White in 4 sets.
In the Girl's National Select category, the Arizona team, coached by A.J. Malis and Amanda Burbridge, was dealt a tough first day draw, but staged a gallant comeback the rest of the tournament winning the Bronze division championship over Southern California's White squad, despite losing the first two sets. After losing their first two matches, the Arizona squad won out the rest of the way.
Arizona teams posted a perfect 12-0 record the final three days of the tournament. Congratulations to these amazing coaches and athletes on an impressive showing.

The 2nd annual Arizona Region Golf Tournament will be held September 20, 2008 and will be played at the Phantom Ranch golf course at the Pointe South Mountain.
Anyone may participate. The Region is not only looking for golfers, but for those willing to involve themselves with sponsorships and donations as well. All donations will be used as prizes at the event or included in our Development Grant fund.
The Arizona Region aims to facilitate both indoor and outdoor volleyball in a safe yet competitive environment for all those interested. As we continue to grow and our athletes continue to thrive, it is our goal to continue to provide for them as best we can. In doing so we have created a fund that will benefit projects to grow the sport of volleyball here in Arizona; for example, the money may be used to create a club in a low-income area where volleyball may not exist for financial reasons. By playing or making a donation, you will be promoting a safe and competitive environment for our athletes.
Several Arizona schools were honored by the AVCA with the Team Academic award for 2008.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
Phoenix College, coached by Karen Sitkiewicz, was Arizona’s only college or University to be honored. The longest Two-Year College streak in AVCA history also belongs to Phoenix College, with six consecutive from 1999-2000 through 2004-05 while under the direction of Pat Mooney.
Peoria’s Sunrise Mountain High School, coached by Deb Moore made the list again as did Tucson’s Sabino High School under the direction of John Kramkowski and Ironwood Ridge coached by Bill Lang. Chandler’s Hamilton High School under the tutelage of Sharon Vanis round out the honored schools.
Congratulations to all of these fine athletes and programs.
