Testing requirements
The Officials Division has updated the testing requirement for all Arizona Region officials who do not have a national-level rating. The new testing program includes a refereeing component and a scorer component.
- New and Provisional referees are required to take Form C of the USAV referees' exam, while Regional referees are to take Form A.
- You may take the exam online or in paper format. The online exam is available at www.volleyballreftraining.com/usavtest (the 2012 password is AZM577 ).
- All tests in paper format are to be sent (answer sheet only) to Jim Feickert at jwfeickert@gmail.com or you can fax, mail, or deliver it to the Region office.
- We have also prepared an optional review exercise to help you check your knowledge of USAV rules and techniques. You can use this exercise to prepare for the referees' exam and for the start of Region play.
Scorekeeping. The USAV Scorer test is also part of your testing requirement:
Feel free to use the DCR; both the referees' exam and the scorer test may be taken open-book. (Note: This does not apply to nationally rated referees, who are required to take the USAV referees' exam closed-book.)
USA Volleyball Ref Training Website - Fully supported by USA Volleyball, www.volleyballreftraining.com is THE central resource for USA Volleyball officials of all levels of experience. It remains free and open to all who wish to learn more about the sport of volleyball.
Highlights of the new content include:
- Signals – A comprehensive guide to the hand signals used in USA Volleyball play. The module combines descriptions and photographs of real, live referees executing these signals with suggestions about things to pay attention to and errors to avoid.
- Ground Rules – Another thorough guide on how to set ground rules for USA Volleyball play. Get yourself off on the right foot by establishing ground rules that are supported by the DCR.
- Professionalism – A pair of modules pulled from past USA Volleyball National Clinics on ethics, the Golden Rule, and the characteristics of professionalism.
- USA Volleyball camp opportunities – Information about the joint PAVO/USAV camp at NCVF in April as well as the Premier Referee Camp in June at Girls Junior National Championships.
As always, point your browser to www.volleyballreftraining.com for all of this new content and more. Future modules will we’re working on will help with briefing juniors line judges and scorekeepers, the science and art of officiating, and sanctions. In addition, we keep hearing from even experienced referees that they find it valuable to return and view modules again (in particular units on protests and timeout mechanics).
On the VolleyballRefTraining blog (www. http://volleyballreftraining.com/usavreftrainingblog), there have been some interesting new posts on social media and officiating. The blog is an interactive forum and it promises to get stronger and stronger with participation from you and your colleagues.
HOW PAYROLL WORKS - Payroll is paid monthly - for everyone not just officials. The payroll
is submitted to the payroll service (PayChex again starting this
month) on the first work day
of the month. The checks are returned to the office on the next
day and are mailed out. Those that have direct deposit are sent
a stub, everyone else gets a check. The checks/direct deposit
are not payable until the 5th of the month. There is a two day
window
between submitting the payroll and the funding to cover them
- that is why we make the payroll payable on the 5th of the
month. If a
tournament happens on the very last days of the month and the
first day of the month is a Monday there is a good chance that
the pay for that tournament will be held
over
until the next month due to the time it takes for the pay to
be reported to the office/Peter and the turnaround of the payroll
for officials
coming from Peter. It takes too long to get the reports and add
them to
the payroll spreadsheet and input the payroll to include them
on the payroll submitted because there is a time deadline on
the first
to submit the payroll. This rollover happened for the Jan 30
and Feb 27th tournaments.
NEW THIS SEASON - There is no longer shared reffing for the girls formats. One team is assigned to referee and keep score for the entire match. |
