2007 Arizona Region High Performance Camps

The Arizona Region in conjunction with Phoenix College will be hosting High Performance Camps on June 11-13 (Select age group) and June 18-20 (Youth age group). All camps will be held at Phoenix College, main gymnasium. Phoenix College is located at 1202 W. Thomas Road.

The Arizona Region wishes to thank Kaepa USA for their continued sponsorship of our High Performance Program

The 2007 Arizona Region HP Camp will be under the direction of Melissa Wolter, the Head Coach at the University of Western Florida and the Assistant Coach for the USA Youth National team the past two years and Erikka Gulbranson, the current Coach at Vanguard University in Southern California and the Assistant Coach for the USA Youth National Team the past three seasons.

In addition to running the camps, these two will also use these opportunities as a chance to identify any players they feel might be possible future material for the National Teams. Perspective athletes will be advised by mail.

The Arizona Region trained and sponsored a team the first five years of the USAV HP program and participated in the High Performance Championships. The camp is a way to offer more Arizona athletes the chance to be introduced to the High Performance Program and the methods taught at the U.S. Olympic training level.

Age divisions for the camp will be as follows:

The HP Select campers must be Girls born in 1992, 1993 and after
The Youth campers must be Girls born in 1990 and 1991

There are no exceptions to these age groups as anyone being considered for the National teams will have to fall in these age divisions.

Cost - $225 for either camp includes a Camp t-shirt. Meals and snacks are not inlcuded. Water will be provided on site to fill up your own water bottle.

A non-refundable $50 deposit must accompany your High Performance Application and Medical Release form to hold a place in the camp. The balance can be paid at check-in. If something comes up and you know that you are unable to attend after sending in your forms, please let the Region Office know so that we can let another camper attend in your place.

Checks payable to Arizona Region or cash are the only means of payment acceptable. We do not have the ability to process a credit card payment.

Even if you already have a medical release form filled out from your club team, you will still need to fill one out for the camp.

The deadline to enter the camp is June 8, 2007.

Gulbranson ended her fifth season in charge of the Lion Volleyball program with the team’s second straight NAIA Region II Tournament appearance in 2005. Winning over 20 matches for the second season in a row, Gulbranson returns for the 2006 season with high goals for her sixth year at Vanguard University.

Since awakening a slumbering program, Gulbranson has nearly balanced her overall record at Vanguard, tallying a 77-81 mark after the 2005 record of 23-11. Gulbranson was a 4-year team captain as a player at Cal State Bakersfield, and helped lead the Roadrunners to 3 NCAA Division II Championship appearances and 2 second-place finishes.

She has over 13 years of coaching experience to her credit, including junior club, high school, college, international, individual, camp, and clinic experience. At the university level, Erikka has served as an assistant at CSUB, University of Idaho, Utah State University, and University of Southern California.

The past four summers, Gulbranson has been coaching with USA Volleyball in international competition. After serving two seasons as an assistant coach, Gulbranson became the USA Girls Youth National Team head coach and led the team to a fourth place finish at the FIVB U-18 World Championships in China in 2005. This summer, Gulbranson was moved up to the assistant coach position of the USA Women's Junior National Team, where the USA won the U-20 gold medal in Mexico. Fresh from international competition, Gulbranson is fired up to try for another VU school record, a fourth straight winning season. She enters the 2006 season as the winningest coach in VU volleyball history.

Melissa Wolter

Entering her fourth season at the helm of West Florida, head coach Melissa Wolter has contributed to the rise of Argonaut volleyball. Since arriving in 2003, Wolter has compiled a 53-21 record. In six career seasons as a head coach, Wolter is 89-72. Last season Wolter led West Florida to a 24-7 record, and the Argonauts third appearance in the Gulf South Conference Tournament. The 2005 squad set team records for games played, kills, total attacks, digs, blocks, service aces and assists. Four Argonauts also earned All-GSC accolades.

In her first year at West Florida, Wolter led the Argonauts to a record of 24-7, including a 15-match winning streak. The Argonauts also earned their second straight bid to the GSC Tournament. West Florida made their first appearance in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 and ended the season nationally ranked in hitting percentage (25th), kills per game (20th) and assists per game (26th).

Wolter came to West Florida from NCAA Division II Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisc. She was the head coach of the Rangers for three years after serving as an assistant. Wolter led the Rangers to their seventh straight Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in 2002 with a record of 16-11.

Last summer, Wolter was an assistant coach with the USA Volleyball Youth National A2 Team. The team competed in the junior and youth division of the USAV High Performance Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Wolter earned the high honor of serving as an assistant coach for the USA Youth National Under-18 National Team for two summers. In 2005, Wolter traveled with the team to the Federation Internationale de Volleyball World Championships in China. At the 2004 North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation Championships in Puerto Rico, Wolter helped coached The USA Youth National U-18 Team to a 4-0 record and a gold medal.
