Molten
16s Pass Chemistry, Gain Region Hardware
The Molten 16-Brian squad used chemistry to its fullest
potential and won the Club 16A Region Championship on May 7th,
defeating Mesa's 16-Amy team in the final.
Coach Brian Hiapo praised his girls on the way they
handled the Regional tournament. "The day went very well." He
said. "It's
a combination of our whole season coming into one day and it really
depended on how they played that day because we had won 5 of the
6 tournaments and believe me, it's hard to have that pressure.
The girls were able to take that pressure and apply it." Hiapo
added, "They worked hard all year and it's so nice to
see them reap the rewards of their training. They're a good
team."
While he stayed away from the Periodic table of elements,
he did enjoy the chemistry he saw whenever the team got together.
"They
just bonded and jelled so well." Hiapo lauded. "The
chemistry was just right. And that day they were all on and it was
nice to see them maintain that level of consistency in their play."
"I had a big team of 13 girls and it was where
I wanted to play them all." Hiapo says of his season. "It
was a good experience for me as well as for them. We don't
travel much so winning Regionals meant a lot to us because we could
play
in the Open (Division) Regionals a week after. That was our big tournament
and we really enjoyed the opportunity to play in that."
The team finished 7th in the Open Division Championships,
winning the Silver Division of the 16 Open field.
