Arizona Boy's Had A lot to Offer at Regionals!

The 2011-2012 Arizona Region Boy's Championships featured teams from stand out clubs all over the Valley. Unlike last year, one club was not dominate in any age group. Club Red, APV and AZ Fear would be the powerhouses claiming the chamipionship title. Some of the teams will compete in a bid-tournament that will earn them a spot to go to Nationals.

APV Tops Red for 18’s Gold

The A.P.V. 18 Blue team won the Arizona Region 18’s Championship with a hard fought win over the Club Red 18’s.

The two teams had wrestled tournament after tournament taking turns as the #1 seed in the Region, but Matt Dyck’s A.P.V. squad won the biggest match of their season.

With 7 returners, the team made huge strides throughout the season. They overcame early injuries and built a promising chemistry with the newcomers that would ultimately help them end their season with their huge victory.

Dyck, also wearing the hat of the club director of A.P.V., hopes that this championship title will help the sport of volleyball grow in Tucson.  “Hosting clinics and getting the youth involved at a young age will help volleyball grow.” Dyck said.

AZP 18 Gold defeated the Lone Rangers 18’s for the silver division title.

AZ Fear 17’s Stop Molten for Championship

AZ Fear 17 Quicksilver topped the Molten 17 Black for the 17’s gold medal. Az. Fear Quicksilver coach Jeremy Price, who is also the head coach for the GCU Men’s Volleyball teams  said, “Both teams competed very hard until the last point and we fortunately came out on top. The boys are all great athletes with so much potential and I hope they take it far.”

A.P.V.’s 17 Red beat M.V.C.’s 17’s to win the silver division.

Club Red 16’s Go Wire to Wire with 16’s Title

Club Red 16’s knocked off the Aspire 16 Black to win the 16’s division. The Club Red team had been the front runners for 16’s all season and carried through to the season ending title.

Az. Fear 15 Quicksilver Top Molten for 15’s Crown.

The Az. Fear 15 Quicksilver parlayed their season long reign as the top 15’s to a title in that age group, topping the Molten 15 Black in the Championship match.

Az. Fear 15’s Head Coach Ryan Woodworth who is also a part of the GCU Men’s  coaching staff said, “It’s great to see boys at this age play volleyball and learn the game and watch them fall in love with the sport as the season plays out. They grow so much as an individual and learn the teamwork skills necessary for the real world.”

Molten coach Jon Millar said of his Molten boys, “We had a very fun year getting to know each other better and trying to improve as a team.  The final match was a great game!  It went 3 games and AZ Fear did a great job in winning the Championship.  I am very proud of my team.  We were a young team and for a lot of the players this was
their first time playing Club.  If they stick to what they have learned, they will have a lot of success in the future.  Our captains "Bug" Chapman and Jaxon Buehner were great examples to our team and did a great job in leading them.  I thank them all for their hard work!”

Men's National Team Hosts Boys Clinic

Chris Jackson and his fellow coaches of the USA Men's National Team graced Arizona with their presence this past January. Chris and his staff hosted a 2-day clinic at Deer Valley High to help raise funds for the schools volleyball program. Coaches who attended the clinic were able to be certified for the attendance as well. Boys from all over the Valley got a chance to learn skills from the professionals themselves and took the opportunity to improve on their game.
