Dig Pink Weekends Bring In Over $8K
The Arizona Region and the Side-out Foundation teamed up to host the Region’s first Dig PinkĀ® tournaments! The Region wanted to contribute to the community education and medical research by hosting Dig PinkĀ® tournaments on February 5th, and the 12th. Each team participating in either of the tournaments were encouraged to show their participation by wearing pink and fundraising as much money for this cause as possible!
Even the Referees got in on the fundraising by donating two-match pays towards the cause, and wore pink shirts on game day!
The Teams that raised the most money for their division were:
| Open Division: |
AZ Sky 15 Magic |
$250 |
| Championship Division: |
AZ East Valley 13-1 |
$1,661 |
| Club Division: |
Aspire 13 Silver |
$3,017 |
|
Aspire 12 Royal |
$1,301 |
These 4 teams will be rewarded for their support and participation with an invitation to a pizza lunch on February 27th with Olympic Gold Medalist Kerri Walsh and will receive a Pink Molten Ball as an appreciation for their effort for breast cancer research.
The Region would like to recognize Aspire 13 Silver:
This young team had the highest amount of donations for the fundraiser with $3,017! However, for these girls it was not about winning the grand prize that drove them to work so hard, it was the meaning of the fundraiser. This fundraiser is very personal to the team and parents for numerous reasons, one being; the grandmother of one of the players is in the middle of battling breast cancer.
This team not only fought hard to get donations for a great cause, but also brought that fight to the court by taking 2nd place in their division! Way to go girls, your drive to help others fight against breast cancer is heroic, your fight and heart on the court is gratifying! Keep up the great work!
Total monies raised by all participating teams: $8,133.00
Total monies donated to Arizona medical research centers: $2,033.25
The Region truly thanks all that participated in this fundraiser to help support the education and medical research for breast cancer! It is hard to find a player, parent or coach that has not been affected by breast cancer in some way, and raising over $8,000 to donate towards medical research is a huge help!
