65th Annual Boyce Awards Banquet
Each
year at the site of the USA Volleyball Open Championships the tournament
is preceeded by a set of national meetings for the Regional Volleyball
Association Assembly (the Commissioners of the 40 Regions), the
Junior Assembly (the representatives from the Regions meeting
to discuss junior division operations at the national level),
the Official's Assembly (leadership from the official's division
of all the Regions) and the USA Volleyball Board of Directors.
The end of the meetings and the kick off of the Open tournament
is the annual Dorothy C Boyce Awards Banquet. This banquet honors
several outstanding people in differing portions of volleyball.
This year the
Boyce Moment was a celebration of three 3-peats that took place
in the collegiate women's volleyball world this season. Penn
State (Head Coach Russ Rose) - Division 1, Concordia St. Paul
(Head Coach Brady Starkey) - Division 2 and Fresno Pacific (Head
Coach Dennis Janzen) - NAIA were all honored for their program's
successes.
As a part of
the Boyce Banquet the local Region is given the honor of Saluting
some people in the Region that have made an impression on local
volleyball. The Arizona Region Salute included 46 influential
volleyball contributors to Arizona volleyball. Not all were in
attendance but all are given a tip of the hat for what they did
to advance volleyball in the Arizona Region - either through
the Region or as part of a school, club or collegiate program.
