General Assembly Weekend Sets the Bar Very High
Amid cheers of approval
from the throng of Club Directors that had gathered in the ball
room of the Phoenix Airport Hilton, Arizona Region Commissioner
Harold Cranswick recognized his vision for the General Assemblies
of the future.
Cranswick orchestrated
the moving of the General Assembly, the yearly gathering of all
Club Directors, to a hotel instead of a community college as
in past years. The audience was served a lunch of Mexican food
before the meetings began in earnest.
In the meetings, the
new policies that were set forth by both the Junior and Executive
Boards were unveiled to the Directors by the members of both
boards explaining them in detail. Also on the agendas were break
out sessions for the Officials, the Adult Team Reps and the Junior’s
Division. A New Club Director’s workshop was hosted by
Region Secretary Becky Hudson.
The morning of the
General Assembly, an IMPACT clinic was held at South Mountain
Community College while an IMPACT recertification clinic was
held at the Hilton featuring guest speaker Peter Vint who was
flown in for just this event. Vint is a member of the United
States Olympic Committee Performance Technology Department and
works in the Coaching and Sport Sciences Division. His research
was recently featured in the May issue of Wired Magazine. Vint‘s
discussion included attacking, blocking, and feedback/practice
design presentations.
“The
Peter Vint clinic was excellent.” Said longtime
Club Director and Coach Bernard Ing. “He went into
great detail in discussing attacking, blocking, and feedback/practice
design presentations. I think that everyone that attended
the clinic gained valuable information.”

On the Saturday before,
another of Cranswick’s visions came to fruition as the
Region, under the direction of Christy Naughton, hosted it’s
first ever golf tournament. Thirty golfers participated in the
best ball tournament held at the Phantom Horse Golf Club located
at the Pointe South Mountain Resort in Phoenix. Sponsors donated
prizes for a huge raffle held at the post tournament luncheon
in the Flagstaff Room of the resort.

Proceeds
from the golf tournament will go to the Arizona Region’s Development
Grant fund which will help grow the game at grassroots levels
and try to further the game in avenues that the Region currently
isn’t assisting.
Next year’s General
Assembly weekend will also feature a golf tournament, IMPACT
and IMPACT recertification clinics. Please forward to the Region
office any ideas or suggestions you may have to make this weekend
even more special.
