ESPN to Cover Pan American Games in Rio

ESPN to Offer Multimedia Coverage of the XV Pan American Games Rio 2007

Coverage Across 7 ESPN Platforms; Three Weeks of Daily Coverage Begins Friday, July 13

Using a full collection of its multimedia assets, ESPN will provide unmatched, daily coverage of the 15th edition of the Pan American Games live from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Friday, July 13 – Sunday, July 29. Coverage of the Pan American Games will be featured on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, ESPN360.com, ESPN Deportes Radio, ESPNdeportes.com and ESPN Deportes La Revista. ESPN Brasil, the company’s Portuguese-language network, will also televise the event. The Pan American Games will be held in 16 different venues throughout Rio de Janeiro.

ESPN Deportes, the company’s Spanish-language network in the U.S., will offer at least 10 hours of daily coverage starting with Opening Ceremonies July 13 at 3 p.m. ET. Spanish-language coverage will begin at noon and conclude at 10 p.m. ET on weekdays and 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. ET on weekends. ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN360.com will simulcast some of ESPN Deportes’ Spanish-language coverage.

Highlights include:

Pan American Games content across 7 ESPN platforms: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, ESPN360.com, ESPN Deportes Radio, ESPNdeportes.com and ESPN Deportes La Revista.
More than 160 hours of Pan American Games-related programming – the most ever televised in the U.S.
Spanish-language simulcast of the Men’s Basketball semi-finals on ESPN and boxing finals on ESPN2.
At least 20 on-air commentators (hosts, analysts, reporters and contributors).
Each day will begin with a preview show and conclude with a one-hour live edition of SportsCenter at 10 p.m., ET.

Coverage will feature a wide range of competitions including men’s basketball, men’s soccer, boxing, baseball, beach volleyball, track and field, volleyball, gymnastics, swimming, women’s soccer, futsol and tennis. Occurring once every four years and during the year prior to each Olympic Games, the Pan American Games is a multi-sport, quadrennial event for the Americas. The 15th edition of the Pan American Games will feature approximately 5,500 athletes from 42 countries. This year the U.S. delegation will include approximately 650 athletes competing in 35 sports. Pan American Games-related programming will begin airing on the 6:30 p.m. edition of SportsCenter with a series of long-form feature that will take an in-depth look at some of the athletes and most storied teams competing.
