Boys Season Around the Corner
Tryouts
for the 2008 Junior Boys season will be held on or after Sept 1st.
Information only meetings may be held prior to Sept 1st.

here. This list is a courtesy only. The tryout information
is listed in the order received and with the information given.
The
Junior Club Directory lists all the clubs in the state of Arizona.
The boys only clubs are listed in blue, those that offer both girls
and boys are listed in purple. This list is constantly changing
as new clubs come on board and as clubs disband. We are in the
beginning process of receiving the new club information for the
upcoming 2008 season. Click

The
Boys 2008 tournament season will run from Oct 1st - Dec 22nd in
Arizona - the tournament
schedule is now posted. There are other opportunities for travel
that will occur outside those dates. The Boys Jr National Championships
will be in late June into early July. The actual dates and location
have not been announced by USA Volleyball to date.
New
for the Boys 2008 season. The teams will be broken into two divisions
- Open and Club. The Open Division will play all day tournaments
as in the past - pool play followed by bracket play. The Club Division
will play the same half day wave format that our Girls Club Division
plays - 8 team bracket format that guarantees three matches per
tournament. A teams in the Club Division may play an am or pm wave
for their tournament day. The Club Division will have one additional
tournament than the Open Division. Clubs will decide prior to the
first tournament which Division they will enter.
AZ
Region Set To Host First Annual Golf Tournament

The Arizona
Region is finalizing plans to host its first annual Golf Tournament
to help raise funds for charitable programs throughout the Region.
The tournament
will be held at the Phantom Horse Golf Club located at the Pointe
South Mountain Resort in Phoenix.
A 7:30 a.m.
start on September 15th includes a golf cart, practice balls and
bag tags in addition to lunch. The cost for the event is $120 per
individual and $400 per foursome. Credit cards will be accepted
for payment. We are currently in the process of setting that up. Click

Looking
for a way to advertise your business? We are still looking for
hole sponsors for the golf tournament. For costs and availability,
contact Christy at the Region office at 602-454-1367.
The tournament
will coincide with the Region’s General Assembly on September
16th. The General Assembly is our annual meeting of club directors,
adult team reps, officials and any other interested parties held
before the beginning of the 2007-08 club season.

The Volleyball
Hall of Fame is located in Holyoke, Massachusetts - the birthplace
of volleyball. It is a non-profit organization that depends on
donations to exist. Please consider a donation to the Volleyball
Hall of Fame to keep the history of our sport alive. Donations

The Volleyball
Hall of Fame is preparing for it's 2007 inductions on October 11th.
Those being inducted into the Hall of Fame are:
Bob Ctvrtlik
- Indoor Player - was a three-time Olympian for the US Men's Indoor
National Team. He was instrumental in propelling the Americans
past the Soviet team to capture Gold at the 1988 Olympic games
in Seoul. He later captained the 1992 U. S. team that took the
Bronze in Barcelona. He was awarded "Best Player in the World" in
1995, however his USA team finished out of medal contention at
the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.
Andrea Gardini
- Indoor Player from Italy. A key component of the FIVB-crowned "Best
Volleyball Team of the 20th Century," was a tough, effective
and popular middle blocker for the "Squadra Azzurrini." Gardini's
team took Olympic Silver in Atlanta 1996, in what many call the
greatest volleyball match ever.
Dimitar
Zlatanov - Iindoor Player - member of the 1980 Silver Medal team
from Bulgaria and member of the "Best Volleyball Team of the
20th Century". Zlatanov defined volleyball in Bulgaria for
a generation.
Kerri Pottharst
- Beach Player - Australia's most decorated indoor and beach player.
Olympic Gold Medalist from the 2000 Olympic Games held in Sydney.
Pottharst and her team partner, Natalie Cook, were selected as
one of the two "Best Women's Beach Volleyball Teams of the
Last Decade (1990 - 2000)" by the Federation Internationale
de Volleyball (FIVB) as a part of its "20th Century Best" Awards.
Carlos Nuzman
- Leader in volleyball - President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee
since 1995. Nuzman was the president of the Brazilian Volleyball
Federation from 1975 to 1995, an era of many victories for Brazilian
men's volleyball.;
Yuan Weimin
- Coach - As president of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (1997
- 2001), he is credited with helping to popularize volleyball on
the Asian continent, initiating new tournaments and overseeing
the rapid and impressive development of Asian Beach Volleyball.

Congratulations
Are In Order!
Peter
Meyer, our esteemed Official's Division Coordinator. was
the R1 on the Women's Final of the AVP Chicago Open on Sunday,
Aug 5th where Jenny Johnson-Jordan and Annette Davis defeated
Angie Akers and partner Brooke Hanson in two straight games.
Jerry
Moews was also in Chicago for the AVP Chicago Open and officiated
several "money matches" from the R1 position.

guys on moving up the AVP ladder!
