Tucson
Fireplay Shows their Power!
By Coral Koch
The Tucson Power Volleyball Club sent its only team to Nationals
in Denver in June to compete in the Women's B Division, and
they had an exciting run.
Fireplay is made up of Amy Johnson, Angel Marshall, Rhonda
Rumble, Shannon Bullock, Rhea Frondozo, Suzan (Sterphens) Attaway
with an added guest Katherine Florence. Regular team member
Brandi Kitzberger could not go and Coral Koch played with 50's
Floorplay instead, but brought home a Silver medal.
Fireplay played very well in pool play only losing one match. But there was
a three-way tie for first; seeding them second for the tournament in the Gold
division. Just before tournament play Angel Marshall sustained a bad ankle
injury and could not play the rest of the matches; leaving the team with six
players and no subs.
Their tournament record was a loss to Pink Ladies; a win
against
Volleyhollics and a loss to Strike Force ending their run.
Fireplay
finished 5th out of 32 teams, a great run for their first
time at Nationals.
