Arizona Officials Lend Support to Starlings National Championships

The Arizona Region Officials lent their support for the 2002 Starlings National Championships, June 20-23rd in San Diego, California with a very strong showing.   Led by Peter Meyer, the AZ Region Official's Chair, 12 current and 1 former Arizona Region Official gave of their time to take part in the tournament.  A few of the officials gave two days worth of whistle blowing while a core of 8 endured the entire 4 day tournament.  The Region Office also participated with Becky Hudson acting as the Tournament Director for the 2nd year.  Early mornings and late nights were the rule of the day, but a good time was had by all.

The Starlings Volleyball Clubs, USA was started by former San Diego State University and IVA player Byron Shewman.  The mission of the Starlings Organization is to provide the equal opportunity for girls - from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds - to train and compete at USA Volleyball's Junior Olympic level; to encourage teamwork, health, positive life skills, and academic achievement; to establish member clubs throughout the nation that are community based and self sustaining.  Check out their website at www.starlings.org for further information about this wonderful organization.
