Arizona Sizzle Ties for 5th at Inaugural USAPVL Championships

The Arizona Sizzle of the USA Premier Volleyball League represented the Arizona Region well making the Gold Division and finishing tied for 5th place in the inaugural USAPVL Championships. The event took place over 4 days in Salt Lake City, UT during the first session of the USA Volleyball Open Championships. Twelve Regions entered teams in the inaugural USAPVL Championships. Teams competing were: Arizona Sizzle, Evergreen Region, Florida Wave, Great Lakes Region, Hoosier Exterminators, Iowa Ice, Northern California Dream Team, North Texas Region, Team New England, Puget Sound Region, Utah Unity, Western Empire Region. The team entered the tournament seeded 7th and raised their seed to 5th by defeating the Evergreen Region, Western Empire Region and the NCVA Dream Team and losing only to Hoosier Exterminators and the Utah Unity in pool play. Competing in the first round of the playoffs the team lost a heartbreaker to the North Texas Region team to be eliminated from further play.

The Hoosier Exterminators finished first earning a $10,000 purse, followed by Iowa Ice $6500 and North Texas Region $3500. Utah Unity finished 4th just out of the money. Rounding out the Gold Division and finishing tied for 5th was the Arizona Sizzle, NCVA Dream Team, Great Lakes Region, and the Florida Wave. Finishing in the Silver Division were Western Empire, Team New England, Puget Sound Region and Evergreen Region.

Arizona Sizzle Headed to SLC for Inaugural USAPVL Championships

The Arizona Sizzle of the USA Premier Volleyball League is headed to Salt Lake City May 26-29th to compete in the USAPVL Professional Volleyball Championships. Twelve Regions have entered teams in the inaugural USAPVL Championships. Teams competing are: Arizona Sizzle, Evergreen Region, Florida Wave, Great Lakes Region, Hoosier Exterminators, Iowa Ice, Northern California Dream Team, North Texas Region, Team New England, Puget Sound Region, Utah Unity, Western Empire Region. The inaugural season is for women's teams only and will replace the Women's Open Division at the USA Volleyball Open Championships. For 2013 the hope is to expand to a men's league as well.
