Women's
B/BB Champions -
Tucson Power VBC Fireplay
Coral Koch’s team’s name came from wanting
the team to play with fire, but wanting to make it one word. For
the Adult Women’s BB division, the “Fireplay” team
lived up to their moniker with a win over the Digging Divas at
Adult Regionals held May 1 st.
Koch’s team started the season ranked 14 and worked their
way up the whole season. Despite a losing season record, the Fireplay
put it together when it was necessary, culminating with their championship
day. “The regional tournament was a good experience mainly
because we fought hard and won through some small adversities.” Koch
says of the regional tournament that saw her and teammates play through
recent injuries and another suffering a back injury that day.
Koch says a part of their success is their relationship with each
other. “This group has played together for a few seasons and
we just laugh so much but then get serious in the crunch times.” She
admits. “We are competitive but are friends enough to not get
angry with each other. So we enjoy all our volleyball together.”
The Fireplay is headed to Denver for the first time to play in
the Open Nationals in late May. “We are playing at Nationals
for the first time for many on the team. Everyone is very excited
and looking forward to the competition.”
