The 2-Ball Express team from Tucson held onto their
number 1 seed and won the Adult Men’s A/AA division regional
championship for the second straight year, beating back a game Sound
Packaging team, on May 1 st.
“ Most of us have played together for almost 6 years.” 2_Ball
Coach Brian Bowers explained of the team that features five University
of Arizona Club team members. “We know what we are capable
of as individuals and as a team and don't panic if we make a few mistakes.” Bower’s
smiles saying, “Overall, we have a good group of athletic guys
who play hard and know how to win.”
Bower’s teammate Steve Walker echoes Bowers. “This group has
been playing together so long they we have transcended the game. There is no
need for motivation for this group. We all know we are going to win when
it matters…”
The day wasn’t that secure as their sixth player didn’t roll in until
just before they were scheduled to play. “ Our 6th man is usually late
and wasn't answering his phone.” Bower’s said of the scare. “We
reffed the first match and were going to take off he didn't show by the end of
the match. Luckily the match went 3 and he showed up, and we stayed to
play.” And play they did. “ We were excited to beat Molten in the
semis in a tough 3 game match.” Bower’s recalls. “And we had
to come from behind to beat Sound Packaging in the finals.” Their
second win in as many years has the future of 2-Ball set, right. Not so fast… “ The
future is uncertain.” Walker concedes. “There may be some overhaul
changes in the positions people play based on their own conditioning levels…some
players may attempt professional changes in their career, including going back
to playing professional ball.”
