Youth Infusion, Tough Schedule Help
AZ Sky Men Take Men’s B/BB Division
Using an infusion of youth and a brutal season schedule that saw
them playing up a division most of the season, the AZ Sky men beat
the Flying Zucchinis in the Regional finals of the Men’s B/BB
division held May 1 st.
Coach Alan Ray credits a different team make up as the reason the
Sky won their division. “We kept our setter and we went out
this past year and found other guys who were young and fun and loved
the game like we loved the game.” Ray said. “We added
these young fun guys who weren’t those aggressive, ‘set
me, set me’ guys. And they changed us.” It would seem
obviously for the better.
Despite a season record of 4-12, the Az Sky men used their season
matches to their advantage on Regionals day. “We played against
those A/AA teams constantly which made us a lot better team. Playing
against them clearly made us better.” Ray admits. “When
Regionals came up, we were so much better from the beginning of the
season. Even though we lost all those matches, we lost against good
teams. That’s what helped us a lot.”
